Due to literally everything getting more expensive I'm due to raise my prices. I still want to keep these commissions as affordable as possible. Prices are calculated per cat and the more cats there are on a drawing the cheaper they get per cat. So at this date, in 2026, the starting price for one cat without a background is €85,- for the digital version. Physical prints are always and add-on and are available in my shop all year round, so you can easily check the prices for those (depending on the size and paper you'd like and including shipping to your destination).

How does it work?

These are basic commissions where I draw your cat in my style from a photo you provide. There will always be limited spots available and it's first come first served. After I open commissions again you can purchase a spot via my online shop, just like a regular product. Choose the number of cats you’d like me to draw and then check out. After you’ve purchased a commission, I’ll reach out to you with more in-depth information about what I need, the timeline, and general details. I want you to add a special toy of my cat / make the cat look like the character they’re named after / add a background, do those spots apply to that too?

Generally, yes! I usually love working on creative ideas and special design requests. If you’re planning to ask for something unique, please reach out before purchasing the commission so I can let you know whether I have the time and skills for what you’d like and to give you a rough estimate of the extra costs.

By purchasing a basic commission for the number of cats you want, you’re securing your spot for the round. After we’ve discussed your idea a bit more, I’ll then send you an additional listing to purchase for the extra work involved.

The price depends a lot on what you’re asking for, so I can’t give a general price estimate. Adding a small toy usually costs much less than, for example, inventing new poses or drawing your cats doing something you don’t have a photo of, since that involves lots of sketching and back and forth to make sure it really looks like your cat.

I'm planning to get a spot next round, is there anything I can prepare already?

Yes and no. Once you’ve secured a spot, I’ll contact you with detailed information about what I’ll need to start your commission. You’ll have about a week to gather everything, so unless you know you won’t have time, there’s no need to prepare anything in advance. If you really want to prepare, I’ll need information about your cat, both visual and character details, and a selection of characteristic photos to choose from. Ideally, avoid very standard poses (like sitting) unless they’re uniquely tied to your cat’s personality or your relationship with them and make sure that the photo you want me to draw is full body, nicely lit and sharp enough.

Can you print my commissioned cat drawing on a shirt?

I'm sorry, but I can't. All my shirts are hand screen printed. This is a pretty old and reliable technique to print shirts, used by many professional print shops. But it's only worth it when you print multiple shirts with the same design starting at 25 pieces.

Can I get on a waitlist if I don’t manage to get a spot?

For now, waitlists don’t work for me. They involve a lot of communication that often doesn’t lead anywhere, and I simply don’t have time for that. I might set up a waitlist at some point, but for now, it’s strictly first come, first served.

Do you offer wholesale?

Whats the return policy?

You can always return an items if it doesnt fit or you dont like it. Please reach out to me via hey@theprintedcat.com to let me know about the return and to receive further instructions. Please be aware that you as a customer will be responsible for return shipping and that the items arrives undamaged.

When will I get my order?

I am usually shipping once a week on Thursday. Please make sure your order has been placed before 12am to make sure it gets processed that day. If it is very busy (around a shop update or during Christmas) I will ship twice a week or on request.. Once your order has shipped, you will receive an email with further information. Delivery times vary depending on your location and also time of the year, but here are some rough estimates.

Netherlands: 1-3 business days
Europe: 2-7 business days
International: 5-21 business days

My size is out of stock, will it come back?

All the items listed are part of my current online shop stock. I try to keep most of my designs in stock in all sizes, though some may currently be sold out. Since I regularly attend markets, I've started to split up my stock and usually have a bit of backstock available to fill in wherever a size is sold out. If your size of a specific design is sold out, you can let me know youre interested by clicking the 'Notify me" button on the product page. There might still be one in the backstock that I forgot to refill, or I can grab it from my market stock. If there's none left and it's not stated otherwise in the description of the item; they will be reprinted in the future. Since I'm printing everything myself it might take a bit. Clicking the notify me button helps me to gauge interested and speed up the restocking in case there are many people waiting for a sepcific deisgn.

Why is shipping so expensive?

For one, I do ship mostly including tracking and many orders are going out internationally, which naturally just comes with a pretty steep base pricing. I also don't believe in hiding other expenses necessary to shipping in the product price itself, as you would be paying too much when ordering multiple items. This is what you pay for additionally to the base shipping fees: Packaging materials (Boxes, tissue paper, stickers, labels, tape,...), Payment processing fees, handling fees (my time) and taxes (where applicable). I also chose to NOT charge for thank you cards and freebie stickers, as this is my choice to add them, not yours!
I hope this makes you understand it a bit better.

I also often get asked if I could ship without tracking to safe costs. And to be honest, I could, but it would only safe you 1-2 euros depending on the destination AND you would lose all safety in case the order gets lost. So I made the decision for your and my peace of mind to only ship tracked.

Do you use AI to create the art?

No. I'm strictly against using ai for fun things like visual art or music. The use of ai in visual material especially when trying to benefit from it and sell it is something I hate and feel sick when seeing it. You can be sure, whatever you find on this website is 100% handdrawn. I have used ai to correct spelling mistakes in long texts before, but am starting to refrain from this as well to keep the skill of proofreading and spare the planet. So, in case you find a typo: sorry not sorry!

Can you print my favourite design on a different color shirt?

Short answer: No.
Long answer: All my shirts are hand screen printed. This is a pretty old and reliable technique to print shirts, used by many professional print shops, but it's only worth it when you print multiple shirts with the same design in one sitting. That's why I'm batch printing every design on a bunch of shirts which then become my back stock. I don't keep any blank t-shirts around, so I would have to special order your desired shirt color as well as a backup incase the one I receive has flaws or the print isn't perfect. Additionally, it's also very unlikely I'm about to print the design you requested, so you'd have to either wait 1-6 months or pay a setup and cleaning fee ontop of the shirt price.

I do get this question a lot though so I'm thinking about opening a one-time sort of preorder system where you can chose any design on any color.
